A Decent Port of an Okay Game

12345
Beach-Head is a direct port of the Commodore 64 game of the same name where your task is to get your fleet, and subsequently your tanks, through the enemy defenses to destroy the base at the end of the game. Played in four stages with an optional fifth, my personal enjoyment varied greatly from stage to stage. In the optional first stage, you guide your ships through a field of mines and torpedoes so get to the other side of the screen. It's tense and fun. In the second and third stages you battle the enemy fleet and airforce by adjusting your cannons to the correct angle to land hits. This is, in my opinion, tedious and not a great use of the Intellivision controller. The fourth stage is a side scrolling tank level that is quite fun, and then you arrive at stage five where you use the same cannon mechanic to take out small white squares on a base before it shoots you. While this port is faithful to the original, I find it to be much more difficult and honestly, I never really liked the C64 game. So take this review from that perspective.Mike's Gaming Gala (7 Jun 2024, 15:16)
